Phalacrocorax carbo
I watched this solitary cormorant paddling along in the shallow water at the edge of the lake. It was continually dipping its head under the water but not diving deeply.
Normally fish eaters these birds will also eat other foods such as aquatic insects and frogs. In this instance I got the impression it was probably grabbing insects.
